NSW: Parking Space Levy Regulation Review consultations welcomed

Statement Monday 23 October (attributable to Jeremy Irvine, CEO)

Parking Australia welcomes consultations opening for the Parking Space Levy Regulation Review.

We recognise this is an important matter for our members, their customers, and the community more broadly.

Parking Australia intends to be a major contributor to the review process. We will consult with our members and relevant stakeholders and will provide a considered position to the review.

Encouraging motorists to carefully consider and plan their journeys is a behaviour we should all aspire to. It is the view of Parking Australia that integrated solutions which are fair and equitable should be on the policy and political agenda with regard to congestion, personal mobility and transport services and safety generally.

Parking Australia’s long-standing position has been for a traffic (parking) management and a transport planning regime that is performance based, equitable, and sustainable and focuses on the social and economic costs of personal mobility. Parking Australia acknowledges that road and parking infrastructure cannot and should not be built to cope with peak demand conditions nevertheless a selective tax on one aspect of travel is unreasonable.

We encourage all interested members to provide a submission to the review by 17 November.

We will continue to work with the government on this matter.
