November 2024 Message from the CEO – Jeremy Irvine

Parking Industry Awards Dinner and National Roads & Traffic Expo wrap

Thank you to the many members and colleagues who joined us for the Parking Industry Awards and National Roads & Traffic Expo last week.

Parking Industry Awards

Hosted by the very funny Jo Stanley, the dinner highlights included winners being announced, recipients of 30-plus years’ service to the industry recognised, and a reflection on the service of the late Michael Moses and Glen Holdsworth.

Congratulations to all our finalists, winners, and long service recipients, and a huge thank you to our sponsors TNS (Dinner Sponsor); Easy Park ANZ (MC Sponsor) Park Aid and Genetec (Pre-Dinner Drinks Sponsor); and CAVU, DESIGNA Australia, First Parking, Kenex Line Marking, Optimise Energy Solutions, Orikan, and UbiPark (Category Sponsors) – both for your support and getting up and having a chat with Jo! We also note with thanks the efforts of the judges whose feedback was that the calibre of applications was exceptional.

We were honoured that Parking Australia Life Member Larry Schneider joined us; Larry presented the Parking Organisation of the Year Award to the City of Perth, and we congratulate the City of Perth team for their win – along with all our finalists and winners.

In the words of a colleague’s post on LinkedIn, the Awards were “an opportunity to nerd out, network, reflect & celebrate” – a sentiment we liked; that and the comment from Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas in his West Australian newspaper column that the Awards were the “Brownlow medal for parking!”.

National Roads & Traffic Expo

It was great to see so many people at the National Roads & Traffic Expo both chatting with exhibitors and participating in the 15 Parking Australia conference sessions that ran across the two days. Our Emerging Leaders finalist panel was well-received and showed the pride in which members have for their emerging leaders, some of which were new to being on a panel, and all of whom were a credit to themselves and their organisations.

Thank you to all the many speakers who took time from their busy schedules to make conference the success that it was, to all our colleague exhibitors, and for the positive feedback from colleagues on the quality and depth of the presentations and panels across the two days.

Upcoming 2024 events

Our next networking event is in Syndey from 3.30pm on 27 November: Topic: The big picture – where does parking fit in the broader policy and planning landscape? Members are free – click on the link for full details and to register.

This is a panel not to be missed as we consider the topic with a focus on disability inclusion.

The event will be preceded by Parking Australia’s 2024 AGM. Details are via Parking Australia AGM » Parking Australia on the member-only site. We congratulate re-elected Directors Angelique Mentis and Daniel Hitchcock, and welcome Andrew Morse to the Board.
