Parking Australia notes the release today of the New South Wales Auditor-General’s Report into the Procurement of services for the Park’nPay app.

As the report notes, “This audit assessed whether the department complied with the procurement obligations that applied at the time it procured these services” (p. 1) and “focusses on the department’s procurement and contract management processes.” (p. 1)

The report is extensive and comprehensive. In an in-depth examination and analysis of the matter, the report makes a series of important conclusions and recommendations including but not limited to the procurement strategy, for example.

For some time, Parking Australia has lobbied the Victorian Government to amend clause 185 of the Road Safety Rules to allow Councils to issue electronic parking permits as is the case in NSW and QLD. Parking Australia is please to inform members that these changes have now been implemented.

Frogparking has been selected to deliver a refresh of Chadstone Shopping Centre’s parking guidance system.

Chadstone – The Fashion Capital is Australia’s largest shopping centre and a world-renowned fashion and entertainment hub for local and international visitors, located 17km from Melbourne’s CBD. An all-encompassing retail experience, Chadstone features over 550 stores, designer boutiques and over 30 luxury brands.

Smart Parking have announced a 3-year contract to supply and install their SmartPark technology solution in over 2,000 parking bays in Wyndham.

The hardware will include over 2,000 vehicle detection sensors installed in individual parking bays to monitor vehicle activity, along with SmartSpot gateways. The SmartSpot gateways are multifunctional communication gateways that relay live parking events from the sensors to Smart Parking’s IoT (Internet of Things) SmartCloud platform.

Transport for NSW is taking the first step in delivering up to 2,000 additional parking spaces at Edmondson Park Station as part of the NSW Government’s Commuter Car Park Program. Construction on the multi-storey commuter car park to the south of the station will begin in mid-2020 and is expected to be completed by mid-2021.

Following a period of reduced rates in the two Brisbane City Council car parks at King George Square and Wickham Terrace, to support those essential workers travelling to the CBD during the COVID-19 restrictions, Council has announced a return to normal rates from Monday 18 May 2020.

The Commercial Tenancy Code of Conduct developed by the Federal Government and the National Cabinet is implemented by state governments with legislation developed and passed by them. To this point, Parking Australia has had some success in lobbying the NSW Government to amend the code allowing for greater flexibility, which may include tenancy relief for car park operators.

The Victorian Government is now providing more support for Victorian businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic to get to the other side of the crisis.

Initially the Victorian Business Support Fund was limited to a small range of industries, but Parking Australia has successfully been able to get the Victorian Government to make the change to include all industries.

Following on from the successful launch of the City of Adelaide smart city parking initiative, the City of Marion has just signed a contract with Smart Parking to install its system in over 400 individual parking bays.

The aim of this project is to reduce commuter parking in local streets, as well as reduce commuter emissions. To achieve this, vehicle detection sensors will provide data on individual parking bays, which is then displayed in real-time on strategically placed LED directional signs, as well as the customised wayfinding app.

Australian Artificial intelligence solutions provider, SenSen Networks Ltd (ASX: SNS) has announced it has been awarded a ~A$2.5M tender with the City of Las Vegas to provide a range of intelligent transportation and smart city solutions. The agreement will support the City of Las Vegas’ goal to become a true Smart City by 2025.

To help support local business who can now only provide takeaway services, Spot Parking has partnered with the City of Parramatta to provide a COVID-19 interactive map, where the city can show new kerbside restrictions to support pick-ups rather than parking, and local restaurants and pharmacies can communicate their new operating hours and offers to the local community. During this diverse time of a global COVID-19 pandemic, the government and public are united in the principles aimed at keeping Australians healthy and minimising economic disruption. Guidelines suggest that reducing the amount of human to human contact and keeping at least 1.5 metres apart will diminish the spread of the virus and fewer people are likely to get ill. That’s where we see measures like encouraging people to work from home and not even being able to shake hands, for the risk of contamination.

The City of Adelaide has implemented an innovative new online platform to assist in safer, touch-free parking at a significantly discounted price across all nine UPark locations.

UPark Plus has been developed in partnership with Adelaide-based organisations ADVAM and DESIGNA Australia and gives $8 capped, touch-free daily parking when customers sign up online and use the new card.

Smarter City Solutions are doing their bit to help the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus by promoting FREE ‘contactless payments’ – a sanitary option that allows motorists to pay for parking without the need to interact with or touch any hardware such as parking meters.

The NSW Government today released the second stage of its economic package aimed at keeping people in jobs, helping businesses and supporting our most vulnerable in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 7 June 2017 EasyMile and Taiwan’s tech consulting firm, 7Starlake, officially launched the EZ10 electric driverless shuttle at a press conference in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung city. Kaohsiung city mayor, Chen Chu, also participated in the launch and took a test ride in the EZ10 driverless shuttle.

Park Assist has been awarded the Parking Guidance System(PGS) contract for the University of Texas at Dallas in the new PS4 campus garage at Richardson, TX in the US. Park Assist will be installing its proprietary M4 camera-based smart sensor PGS. The system will be used in conjunction with the university’s permit based system.

With the installation of the Nedap’s SENSIT system, drivers now know exactly how many parking spaces there are available when they arrive at the Port of Antwerp’s Havenhuis parking facility.

Alstom is investing €14 million, and thus taking a minority stake, in EasyMile, an innovative start-up company developing the EZ10 electric driverless shuttle. The investment forms part of the start-up’s ongoing capital increase. In parallel, Alstom and EasyMile have signed a commercial partnership agreement aiming at joining their forces to provide integrated solutions for urban transportation. Alstom will be present at EasyMile’s board.
