2010 Awards for Excellence
The 2010 Awards were handed out by Sandra Smith, Executive Director of the Canadian Parking Association, at the Australian Parking Convention 2010. The winners of the 2010 Awards for Excellence were:
- In the category of Technical: Wilson ParkWatch
- In the category of Innovation: Colleagues Print Solutions
There is evidence that tickets have been fraudulently copied by consumers and used on multiple occasions. In other cases the tickets have been copied and reproduced in bulk. The copied tickets are then sold cheaply to other consumers. The result is a loss of revenue to Councils, Universities, Hospitals and the like throughout Australia. Colleagues Print Solutions have been approached by several customers to develop a meter roll product that is environmentally friendly and provides improved security against photo copying of tickets.
Colleagues Print Solutions EnviroSecure roll, developed over twelve months of research, development and testing, addresses several security features:
1. The warning band advises that the ticket carries security features that make reproduction of the ticket difficult.
2. The features that make reproduction difficult are:
- The ‘Copy-Void’ feature pattern.
- The fluorescent ink stripe.
- The invisible ultra violet logo or name.
- The micro text feature.
3. The authenticity of a ticket can be verified visually as the fluorescent colour stripe will not be as the original colour and the word COPY will show clearly on the ticket.
4. If a customer has reason to suspect that a ticket is a copy, they can request presentation of the ticket which can be verified easily using a black light and/or magnifying glass.
Significantly the EnviroSecure features can be applied to any meter roll and will suit any brand of Pay and Display style meter used anywhere in Australia. The product uses no metalized or refractive foils. Patents have been applied for and are pending.
- In the category of Management: Cairns Airport
The award winning project is the introduction of a fully automated taxi facilitation system at Cairns Airport.
The system controls taxi activity at the airport ranks and administers the collection of the ground access charge which is payable for all taxis departing Cairns Airport with fare-paying passengers onboard.
“Taxis are a key transport segment at the Airport and as such it was critical that an efficient facilitation system was developed” said Jennifer Sisson, of Cairns Airport.
The existing DESIGNA car park access control system was expanded to include taxi facilitation. The taxi facilitation system is highly successful as it is a fully automated, highly accurate system that is efficient and effective in meeting the needs of all stakeholders.
The system is flexible, auditable and requires minimal ongoing management intervention. The automated nature of the system demands nominal ongoing operating expense.
Collection of the ground access charge is administered on a single monthly account to the taxi company making the system largely risk free as dealings are restricted to the taxi company, not individual operators/drivers.
- In the category of Design: City of Perth Parking
Elder Street car park is a redevelopment and replacement of an existing public parking facility. The new car park consists of 1,064 car bays including 11 Acrod bays. There are also 58 secure motorcycle bays and 54 secure bicycle bays.
The car park boasts bigger car bays, brighter lighting levels in excess of Australian Standards (while maintaining energy efficiency), state of the art technology and extensive directional signage for ease of use of the car park and to reduce carbon emissions.
The aim was to design a car park that is user friendly, modern and with a sense of
space. Light and bright foyers, open spaces and the use of glass in foyer areas have
been incorporated into the design to make the car park more appealing and to
improve security for patrons.
The completed project produces a harmonic contrast between natural concrete and
steel against the high tech modern appearance of the powder coated facade
treatment. The perforated facade treatment allows for abundant natural ventilation
and sunlight, producing a pleasant and non-claustrophobic experience as patrons
circulate within the vibrant and spacious car park.
