“A City with Balanced Parking” – Controversial Parking Strategies for the City of Adelaide”
Dr Alan Perkins is the Manager of the Accessible City Program at Adelaide City Council. His career has been as an urban and regional planner, and a sustainable transport planner. In his mid-career PhD he investigated the influence of urban form on a city’s greenhouse gas emissions. At the Adelaide City Council he is responsible for strategic planning and traffic management, the Adelaide Connector Bus, Free City Bikes, plus on-street parking and UPark.
Adelaide City Council is currently completing its Integrated Movement Strategy (updating the original 2000 IMS). It outlines Council’s desired transport and movement outcomes for the City, and strategies to achieve these over the next ten years. The key IMS priority is to create a people-friendly City by improving conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and those using public transport. It strives to achieve the right balance for accommodating these priority users, whilst addressing the needs for parking, loading and car accessibility.
